Report Back

A merry whirl of activity and events. From Meadow Fair and judging cakes in Darite to watching the sun come up on Solstice morning  from Rillaton Barrow life has been very full lately. Add to this the daily round of a councillor and planning the Charter Fair in Liskeard on 5th July you can see why life is never dull or boring.

The Neighbourhood Development Plan is still going forward at a fine pace and we are about to launch another consultation round. This will be a written questionnaire and exhibitions in Darite, Commonmoor and St Cleer. I hope people will come to the exhibitions to see the background information which has helped to shape the policies.

St Cleer Parish Council has lost a valued member with the resignation of Mick Chorlton, a very good, hard working councillor. We are told that 10 people have called for an election. I understand that this is the democratic way to proceed but it is costly; as a contested election will be £3,500 pounds of the parish precept that we shall not be able to spend on other services or projects in the parish.

Charter Fair is being staged by Phoenix 100 and Caradon Heritage Partnership to mark the centenary of the closure of Phoenix Mine –  the last working mine in this area. There are walks and talks on various themes during the week commencing 30th June and on Saturday 5th July further walks, a pewter workshop, exhibitions in the Museum and Stuart House in Liskeard complemented with street theatre, cornish songs and short stories. All events (except the pewter to work on) are free although there will be a hat passed round in aid of Caradon Heritage Partnership. I hope people will come along and enjoy the day. See details on this poster.
